About The State of Our Water

Every year, the Dutch parliament is informed about the implementation of water policy in the Netherlands. This is done through The State of Our Water. The report outlines the developments of the previous year and is updated every year in May. Accordingly, the information given largely pertains to the past calendar year.

On staatvanonswater.nl you will find general information about interesting topics such as the availability of clean water, how the country is protected against floods and how Dutch expertise in the area of water is being applied worldwide. How much water management costs and exactly what you pay for is also explained.

The policy that is reported on is established in the 2016-2021 National Water Plan, the 2011 Administrative Agreement on Water and the Drinking Water Policy Document. The State of Our Water also reports on the implementation of the European directives on the assessment and management of water quality and flood risks and the North Sea marine strategy.

About Our Water

We seek to increase public awareness about water. The Dutch website onswater.nl shows what is done in terms of water management in the vicinity of local people. We also show what future actions will be needed, because water will never cease to command our attention. And we give people practical hints and tips.
